Will Black is an artist born in 1989 in Greensboro, North Carolina. He graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2011, receiving his B.F.A. with a concentration in drawing and painting. He also earned a degree in History. Will Black’s art has always favored the surreal, his subjects generally dealing with objects of the imagination. Working primarily in drawing and ceramics, he has used his artwork to explore his own personal dreamscape and how it may reflect social influences and the artist’s character.
Will has experienced work in freelancing and commercial design. In 2006 he was commissioned as a portrait painter. Will has also created logos for the Pinetop Tennis & Swim Club in Greensboro, NC and Another Daughter Senior Lifestyle Services in Raleigh. In 2007, while still in high school, Will illustrated his first children’s book in collaboration with author Phoenix Harmony. Entitled The Terrible Grudge of Jeremy Tudge, the book dealt with children learning to overcome negative personality traits. The following year, Will illustrated the second book in Harmony’s “Darkles” series, the soon to be published Gertie Gets the Gimmes.
